Changing Lives, Not Just Patching Teeth

FAQs

Wolcott, NY Dentist

I’m afraid of seeing the dentist. How do you help with patient anxiety?
Anxiety created by dentist visits may stem from childhood experiences, fear of pain, feeling smothered, or embarrassment. At Wolcott we understand and appreciate your fears. Our goal is to alleviate them so that you can take good care of your teeth. We use safe medications and various sedation methods, provide explanations of what we’re doing and how we’ll do it, and treat all patients confidentially. We have a friendly, reassuring staff, and are responsive to your needs when under our care. Our office is inviting, comfortable, and designed to help you relax.

What should I look for when selecting a dentist?
You want a dentistry practice that employs an experienced and trained staff, provides comprehensive dental care and is attuned to patients’ financial concerns. Look for a practice that offers availability and convenience of appointment times, office hours, location, and a clean, friendly, welcoming environment. Ask questions and be satisfied with the answers.

How often should I visit the dentist?
The Academy of General Dentistry recommends check-ups and cleaning every six months. You should call immediately if you have a dental emergency or are experiencing any pain or discomfort associated with your teeth and mouth.

How often should I floss?
Flossing once a day helps prevent cavities and gets out food debris that tooth brushing alone cannot remove. Flossing also helps maintain healthy gums. Flossing should be part of your daily brushing routine.

Why do I need x-rays so frequently?
We use radiographic images which are fully digital, therefore creating less exposure to x-rays. Images allow us to better see the condition of your teeth, showing tooth alignment, decay, root and bone structures, and periodontal tarter. The Academy of General Dentistry recommends panoramic images be taken every 3-5 years and bite wings once per year. Images may also be necessary to determine the cause of a dental problem.

How much will it cost?
Our rates are based on general dentistry practices and local market conditions. Before services are performed, we provide you with an estimate of the cost for any repair work, cosmetic, and health related treatments. We submit insurance claims to your insurance company. However, not everyone carries dental insurance. In addition, we offer an  Affordable Dental Care Plan, exclusively available through Wolcott Dentistry. We will work with you to make sure you can pay for the care of your teeth.
